The artist was Swedish sculptor, Alberto Giacommeti, and I was assigned to pick a scholarly text written about his work, collect a library of images of his sculptures, and then design a catalogue of at least 32 pages (16 spreads) that showed a comprehensive use of grid, typography, and that represented the artist’s work. Giacommeti’s work is narrow, elongated, and textured. When approaching how to use the photographs of his work, I quickly realized that due to their size and style, I was able to pair certain pieces together with parts of the text so they accurately reflected what was written and show Giacommeti’s style. His sculptures often left a good amount of white space on the page which gave me the opportunity to experiment with quotes and text so it could interact with the images.
